BTMC-S2303B/C Heavy Gantry: 12 Tonne Table for Large Castings

The BTMC-S2303B/C heavy gantry machining center handles 12000 kg workpieces with 3200 mm X travel, 2600 mm Y stroke plus gear-head spindle options for large castings.

When the workpiece itself weighs more than most machining centers, you need a machine rated for it. The BTMC-S2303B/C is an S Series heavy gantry machining center with a 12000 kg table load, 3200 mm of X travel and 2600 mm of Y stroke, available in B and C versions that differ mainly in Z-axis reach.

What the B and C Versions Change

The choice between B and C is about part height. The B model gives 1000 mm of Z travel with the spindle reaching 250-1250 mm above the table; the C model extends to 1250 mm of Z and 250-1500 mm above the table. If you machine tall cores, deep cavities or stacked fixtures, measure your tallest setup before deciding - the 250 mm extra reach on the C version is difficult to retrofit later.

Heavy Cutting Hardware

Everything on this machine is sized for material removal on large parts. The 63 mm X-axis ball screw and twin-plus-overload 45 mm roller guides on X and Y handle a 12-tonne workpiece moving under power. The 22 kW spindle offers three configurations: belt drive for general work, gear head at 4.4:1 when torque is the priority, or a 4500 rpm BT50 for the heaviest face milling.

Z-axis options go beyond the standard rectangular rail: a square ram for extra bending stiffness, four linear rails, or a combined linear and hard rail layout. For deep cavity work in cast iron, the square ram option is worth discussing with us.

Installation Reality Check

Plan for the machine before you order it: roughly 8940 x 5400 x 5200 mm of footprint, 30-32 t of machine weight needing a proper foundation, and power for the spindle and axis drives. Cranes, rigging and floor loading should be confirmed early, since a machine this size usually cannot be repositioned casually once installed.

Typical Work

  • Large castings for machine tools, presses and injection moulding equipment
  • Structural parts for construction and mining machinery
  • Big mould and die sets where the clamped assembly approaches the 12 t table limit

Send VITOP Machinery your part weights and dimensions, and we will confirm the B or C version plus the spindle configuration for your material mix.

Why the Casting Programme Matters at This Weight

At 30-32 t of machine mass, residual stress in the castings is the enemy of long-term geometry. VITOP produces its own HT300 resin-sand castings and applies double ageing treatment before any precision machining, then hand-scrapes and matches the guideways and laser-verifies each finished machine with interferometry and ballbar testing. Casting, precision machining, assembly and inspection all happen on one 30000 m² site under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified systems, with full OEM and ODM support available for non-standard requirements. For a machine this size, that single-source build matters: when a heavy gantry needs a geometry check or a replacement part two years into production, the records and the people who made the castings are in the same place.
