Why CMM Reports Should Come With Your Machine

Why CMM Reports Should Come With Your Machine

Machine tool inspections mean little without traceable measurement: how CMM verification of test pieces backs the numbers on the inspection sheet.

An inspection sheet full of microns means nothing if you cannot trust the instrument that produced it. That is why serious machine builders back their geometry tests with CMM-measured parts: the same machine cuts a test piece, and an independent measuring machine verifies what it achieved.

What a Good Report Contains

  • Positioning and repeatability results per axis, measured, not copied.
  • Ballbar circularity at more than one feed rate.
  • A machined test piece with CMM dimensions attached.
  • Instrument calibration traceability and dates.

The test piece matters because geometry numbers live in a laboratory world. Cutting a real feature with a real tool merges thermal growth, tool pressure and spindle behaviour into one honest verdict. If the CMM agrees with the drawing, the machine is ready; if not, no spec sheet will save it.

Every VITOP machine ships with both the geometry log and the CMM report for its test cut, so your quality team can verify us against your own instruments.
