How to get real answers from a machine tool factory tour: the areas to request, questions that surface truth, and what photos to take home.
A factory tour can be theatre or it can be diligence, and the difference is preparation. Suppliers will show you their best corner; a prepared buyer decides in advance what evidence settles the decision.
Request These Areas
- Machining of major castings: are beds and columns finish-machined in-house or bought in?
- Assembly floor: jigs, torque tools, cleanliness and how many machines per fitter.
- Test rigs: ballbar, laser and run-off areas, with recent logs visible.
- Spares warehouse: depth of stock predicts after-sales reality.
Questions That Surface Truth
- Which components do you make yourselves versus purchase?
- Show me a machine built last month and its test records.
- Who answers service calls in my timezone?
Take photos of nameplates, castings and test logs, and note serial numbers. If a visit is impossible, a live video walk-through with your questions answered on camera is the next best thing. We host both, any working day.
