HC Series Inclined Bed CNC Lathe for Batch Turning
HC series slant bed CNC lathe with hydraulic chuck and servo turret, swings to 570 mm, bar capacity to 75 mm plus IT6 accuracy for batch production turning.
If most of your turning work arrives in batches, shafts, pins, bushings, flanges, fittings, the machine that matters is the one that loads quickly, clears chips on its own and holds size all shift long. That is precisely the job of a slant bed lathe. The VITOP HC series inclined bed CNC lathe is built around this kind of work: seven models in the HC-400T to HC-360T range, each configured with a hydraulic chuck and a servo turret.
Why the Bed Is Inclined
On a slant bed lathe the guideways are set at an angle, so chips fall away from the chuck and the ways instead of piling up around the workpiece. Anyone who has run long shifts in steel knows what a difference that makes: less re-cutting of chips, fewer scratches on finished surfaces and a machine that stays clean and serviceable. The inclined layout also brings the workpiece closer to the operator, so loading bar and gauging parts takes less reaching. Over a full shift, that saves real time.
Rigidity is the other benefit. The slanted casting carries cutting loads down through a short, stiff path into the base, which is why slant bed machines hold diameter better than equivalent flat bed designs when cuts get heavier.
Size Range and Workpiece Capacity
The series covers a wide spread of part sizes. Depending on the model, swing over the bed runs from 360 to 570 mm, with swing over the slide from 160 to 320 mm. Recommended turning diameter and length range from 155 x 250 mm on the compact end up to 320 x 500 mm on the larger models. Bar capacity through the spindle spans 36 to 75 mm, so most commercial bar stock can be fed without pre-cutting.
| Parameter | HC series range |
|---|---|
| Max. swing over bed / over slide | 360/160 to 570/320 mm |
| Recommended turning diameter / length | 155/250 to 320/500 mm |
| Max. bar diameter | 36 to 75 mm |
| Chuck diameter | 160 mm (8 in) to 250 mm (10 in) |
| X-axis travel | 200 to 500 mm |
| Z-axis travel | 260 to 850 mm |
| Machining accuracy | IT6 |
Check the two capacity lines against your part drawing before anything else. The swing figure tells you whether the part clears over the bed; the slide swing figure matters when the tool post needs to pass close to a large shoulder.
Spindle, Chuck and Turret
Main spindle speeds run from 2250 up to 5000 r/min depending on the model, driven by servo motors rated between 5.5 and 11 kW. Servo drive gives predictable torque across the speed range, which helps when a part family mixes heavy roughing with fine finishing passes in one programme.
Workholding is a hydraulic chuck, 200 mm on most mid-range models and up to 250 mm on larger ones. Clamping force stays consistent batch after batch, and the operator is not re-gripping a manual chuck between cycles. Tool changes are handled by a servo turret, which indexes quickly and reliably, an advantage on parts that need four or more tools per cycle.
What IT6 Accuracy Means in Practice
The series is rated for IT6 machining accuracy. As a reference, IT6 is the grade you would normally expect on precision shafts, bearing seats and hydraulic components. Holding that class of work depends on more than a datasheet number: thermal stability of the headstock, ballscrew quality and slide rigidity all play their part. When you compare lathes, ask how the builder verifies accuracy on the actual machine, not just what the catalogue states.
Where This Machine Fits Best
- Automotive and motorcycle shafts, hubs and sleeves
- Pump, valve and hydraulic fittings turned from bar
- Electric motor rotors and shaft families
- Standard fastener and bushing production
Electrical capacity on the larger models is specified at up to 45 kW, so confirm your workshop supply before planning the installation. If your parts fit inside a 320 mm by 500 mm envelope, the HC series covers them with margin. If your work is larger, heavier or mostly one-off mould work, ask us about flat bed lathes or machining centres instead.
