Inside a 30,000 m2 CNC Machine Tool Factory: How We Build Machines

A walk through VITOP Machinery's 30,000 m2 production base: casting, precision machining, assembly, scraping and inspection, all under one roof.

Ask a machine tool supplier where their castings come from and where final assembly happens, and you often get two different addresses. At VITOP Machinery, the answer is one place: a 30,000 m2 production base where casting, precision machining, assembly and inspection all sit under one roof. After more than 13 years building CNC machine tools, that chain is the backbone of how our machines are made. Here is a walk through it.

Step 1: Casting

Every machine starts as molten iron. Our frames are HT300 resin-sand castings, a high-strength grey iron poured into rigid resin-bonded moulds for consistent wall thickness and a sound structure. Each casting then goes through double ageing treatment: first to relieve the as-cast stress, and again after rough machining, so the frame settles before it is finished. A machine that starts life stressed will move for years; ours start life settled.

Step 2: Precision Machining

The aged castings move to large precision machining equipment, where the guideway faces, spindle bores, table surfaces and mounting datums are cut to size. Keeping this stage in-house matters more than it sounds: when the same factory casts and machines the frame, feedback about a casting issue reaches the foundry team the same day instead of through a supplier's email.

Step 3: Assembly

Assembly brings together the machined frame, ball screws, ways, spindle, tool changer, electrical cabinet and guarding. VITOP builds nine product series in this base, from gantry and vertical machining centers to 5-axis machines, horizontal machines and drilling-tapping centers, CNC lathes, and the EDM, grinder and milling line for hardened tooling work. Same roof, same logic: the people who assemble a machine know the people who machined its base.

Each series has a job it was designed for. Vertical machining centers handle mould, 3C and general machining with high-speed spindle options. The 5-axis line takes on impellers, aerospace parts and complex surfaces. Gantry machines carry large workpieces, while horizontal machines and drilling-tapping centers cover batch production. CNC lathes in flat-bed and slant-bed versions turn shafts and discs, and the EDM, grinder and milling line covers surface grinding and engraving-milling on hardened tooling. Building all of this in one base means shared knowledge moves between product lines instead of staying in separate factories.

Step 4: Scraping by Hand

Machines cut well, but the last few microns still belong to human hands. Our fitters hand-scrape and match the guideway surfaces, bluing against references and removing high spots until the contact pattern is dense and even. Scraping delivers flatness and alignment beyond what machines alone can achieve, and it leaves oil pockets in the surface that keep the ways lubricated for years.

Step 5: Inspection Before Shipment

No machine leaves without verification. Every unit is checked with laser interferometry for positioning accuracy and with a ballbar test for circular motion and geometry errors, and the readings go into the machine's records. We hold ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certifications, and our machines serve mould and die, precision parts and general manufacturing customers, with exports going worldwide.

Why One Roof Matters to You

A single production base shortens the feedback loop, keeps quality responsibility in one pair of hands and makes full OEM and ODM support practical. Customising a machine is easier when casting, machining and assembly all happen in the same building. For example, if you order a gantry machining center with an extended BT50 angle head, the head interface is planned while the casting is poured and machined, so the machine arrives as one complete build rather than a standard model modified afterwards.
