S Series Gantry Machining Center: Rigidity for Large Moulds
The VITOP S Series fixed-beam gantry machining center spans thirteen models with tables up to 2200 x 8000 mm and 30 t load capacity for large mould and structural part work.
Large moulds and heavy welded fabrications punish machines that flex. The VITOP S Series is our fixed-beam gantry machining center line, built in thirteen models from the BTMC-S1012B up to the BTMC-S2508B/C. The crossbeam stays put while the worktable feeds under the spindle, so the cutting point stays close to the column and the structure carries the load where it matters.
Size Range at a Glance
The series covers a wide band of workpiece sizes, and most buyers choose a model by table capacity first:
| Parameter | Range across the series |
|---|---|
| Worktable travel (X-axis) | 1200 - 8200 mm |
| Sliding saddle stroke (Y-axis) | 1100 - 3200 mm |
| Spindle box travel (Z-axis) | 800 mm; B models 1000 mm; C models 1250 mm |
| Gantry width | 1100 - 2800 mm |
| Worktable dimensions | 900 x 1400 mm up to 2200 x 8000 mm |
| Worktable load capacity | 1600 - 30000 kg |
| Spindle motor power | 18.5 - 22 kW |
| Repetitive positioning accuracy (X/Y/Z) | ±0.003/300 mm |
Match the gantry width to your widest fixture plus cutter swing, and leave roughly 20-30% envelope margin over your largest workpiece. A mould base that just fits today becomes a problem when you add clamps, a dust cover or a bigger electrode holder next year.
Spindle Options Explained
The standard fitment is a BT50-155 belt-driven spindle at 6000 rpm with a 4:1 ratio, and larger models move to the BT50-190 belt spindle. Where you need more speed for finishing, a BT40 12000 rpm spindle is optional on several models. Where you need torque for heavy roughing of cast iron or steel plate, the gear-head BT50-190 option runs 6000 rpm at a 4.4:1 ratio, and a BT50 4500 rpm variant is also available.
In practice, shops doing long roughing cycles pick the gear head; shops doing electrode and finishing work on aluminium or graphite add the high-speed BT40. Motor power of 18.5 to 22 kW gives enough headroom for full-width milling with a face cutter, which is exactly what these machines are bought for.
Build Quality Behind the Accuracy Figure
The ±0.003/300 mm repetitive positioning figure only holds if the structure is stable. VITOP machines start from HT300 resin-sand castings that go through double ageing treatment before machining, so residual stress does not creep back and move the geometry after a few months of production. Guideways are hand-scraped and matched in pairs, and every machine is verified with laser interferometry and ballbar testing before it leaves the factory.
Installation Planning
These are floor-loading machines, so plan ahead. Footprints run from roughly 6200 x 3500 x 4380 mm on the smaller models up to about 19500 x 5700 x 5200 mm on the largest, and machine weight ranges from about 13.5 t to 58 t depending on model. Check your foundation drawing, crane access and incoming power against the specific model before you order, not after the truck arrives.
Typical Applications
- Injection mould bases and deep mould pockets in P20 and 718 steels
- Press die and check fixture machining on large plates
- Structural parts for construction and engineering machinery
- Machine bed and frame components that need flat, stable surfaces
If your parts fit under the beam but weigh several tonnes, the S Series is designed for exactly that job. Send us the workpiece drawing and we will suggest the model, spindle option and table size that match it.
Working With VITOP on a Gantry Order
Gantry purchases are project purchases, and the machine is only part of the package. VITOP Machinery has built CNC machines for more than thirteen years on a 30000 m² production base where casting, precision machining, assembly and inspection sit under one roof, so responsibility for the whole machine stays in one place. Full OEM and ODM support is available, which matters if you need non-standard table sizes, special fixtures or a custom configuration for your workpieces. Production runs under ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified systems, and the same laser verification that runs on every machine before shipment gives you a baseline geometric report for installation and later recalibration. When you request a quotation, include your part drawings, floor plan and power supply details so the proposal comes back complete the first time.
