High-Speed Gantry Machining Center: Fast Milling for Large Moulds
The VITOP high-speed gantry machining center runs 12000 rpm spindles (optional 15000/20000 rpm) with 15-18 m/min rapids for fast, precise large panel plus mould machining.
Big moulds do not have to machine slowly. The VITOP high-speed gantry machining center series (BTMC-1210G to BTMC-1613G, four models) pairs a fixed-beam gantry structure with a 12000 rpm spindle and fast axis moves, so large electrodes, panels and mould cavities clear faster without giving up the stiffness a gantry provides.

Why Speed Matters on a Gantry
On a large cavity, most of the cycle time goes into finishing passes with small stepovers. A 12000 rpm spindle lets you run smaller diameter cutters at proper surface speeds in hardened mould steel, graphite and copper, while the 15-18 m/min rapids cut the air-moves between passes. Across thousands of metres of toolpath, that difference shows up directly in delivery dates.
The standard 12000 rpm spindle covers most mould work. If you machine a lot of graphite electrodes or do fine hard milling, the 15000 or 20000 rpm options are worth the conversation - higher rpm with light depths gives better surface finish and longer tool life on those materials.
Rigidity Still Comes First
High speed only pays off when the machine holds position. This series keeps the fixed-beam gantry layout, so the cutting loads go into the column structure rather than into a cantilevered head. The 8.8 to 12.2 t machine weight is not there for transport companies; it is the mass that damps vibration during light, fast finishing cuts.
As with all VITOP machines, the structure starts with double-aged resin-sand castings, guideways are hand-scraped and matched, and every machine is laser-verified with interferometry and ballbar testing before shipment. The ±0.005/300 mm positioning accuracy is the checked result, not a brochure number.
Who This Machine Suits
- Mould shops machining large cavities and cores that want to bring finishing in-house
- Electrode manufacturing cells working in graphite and copper at high spindle speeds
- Pattern, panel and large plate work where fast rapids shorten cycles
- Shops stepping up from a vertical machining center to gantry-class envelope without a full heavy-cutting gantry
If your parts are heavier than 3 t or wider than the 1600 mm X travel, look at the larger fixed-beam series instead. If your bottleneck is finishing time on mould-sized parts inside this envelope, the high-speed gantry is the efficient choice.

Practical Buying Notes
Before you shortlist a high-speed gantry, look past the spindle speed and check the details that decide how the machine performs in your shop. Confirm the control options available for the model, since your programmers' existing CAM posts and habits affect ramp-up time more than most spec sheets admit. Check the tool taper options too - higher spindle speeds generally need balanced toolholders and the right taper fit to run smoothly. Ask for the laser interferometry and ballbar report of the specific machine you will receive; VITOP runs these tests on every machine before shipment as standard, alongside ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified processes. Finally, remember that finishing speed only pays when setup time is under control: plan your fixturing and probing approach for large plates at the same time as you choose the machine. With more than thirteen years of manufacturing on one 30000 m² site, VITOP can also discuss custom configurations under its OEM and ODM programme.
