YBM Gantry-Type Vertical Machining Center: Specs and Uses
YBM portal-style VMC with 15000 rpm electric spindle, HSK-A63/BBT40 tooling and ±0.003/300 mm accuracy for long workpieces plus mould machining.
A Vertical Machine With a Bridge Over the Table
The YBM series looks different from a C-frame VMC, and the difference is functional. Instead of a cantilevered column, the spindle rides inside a portal: the sliding saddle carries the spindle box across a fixed bridge while the table moves underneath. VITOP offers two models, the YBM-750 and YBM-1050, built for long workpieces and mould machining where a conventional vertical layout starts to work against you.
How the Axes Are Arranged
Sliding saddle stroke (X-axis) is 500 mm, worktable travel (Y-axis) is 700 mm on the YBM-750 and 1000 mm on the YBM-1050, and spindle box travel (Z-axis) is 500 mm. Tables measure 500 x 850 mm and 500 x 1050 mm with 800 to 1000 kg load capacity. Because the part travels under the bridge rather than the spindle reaching across a table, the cutting point stays between the two uprights, where the structure is stiffest.

High-Speed Spindle With Real Power Behind It
The standard fitting is a 15000 rpm electric spindle, with a 20000 rpm version available. What makes this pairing unusual in this size class is the muscle around it: a 20 kW spindle motor and 320 N.m rated output torque. That combination lets one machine do both fine high-speed finishing with small tools and genuinely productive metal removal with larger cutters, instead of being limited to light engraving cuts.
Tooling: HSK-A63 or BBT40
You can specify HSK-A63 or BBT40-Φ150 tooling. HSK-A63 suits high-rpm work thanks to its rigidity at speed and repeatable axial positioning, which matters when tools are changed between roughing and finishing passes. BBT40 keeps dual-contact stiffness and fits shops already standardised on BBT40 holders. Either way, holder quality is part of the accuracy budget; treat cheap holders as a false economy on a machine like this.
Accuracy and Machine Weight
Positioning accuracy is ±0.003/300 mm on all axes. The whole machine weighs 7200 to 7800 kg depending on model, and that mass is not vanity: a heavy base and portal resist the vibration that high-speed spindles generate, which is what keeps fine finishes achievable at 15000 rpm and above. VITOP supports this with HT300 resin-sand castings, double ageing treatment and laser verification of every machine before shipment.
Typical Applications
- Long, narrow mould details and inserts machined in one setup.
- Graphite and copper electrodes with fine detail at high spindle speed.
- Aluminium moulds and fixtures where surface finish saves polishing hours.
- Multi-part batches clamped along the table length.
Specifying a YBM Machine
Choose the model by part length: if your workpiece plus fixtures fits 700 mm of table travel, the YBM-750 is enough; if not, take the YBM-1050. Then pick the spindle speed and tool interface based on your material mix. If your shop mixes mould finishing with electrode work, this is one of the few machine types that handles both without compromise. Send VITOP your typical parts and ask which configuration they would quote.
