ZX-2030 Moving Column Gantry: 3200 mm Travel for Plate Machining

The ZX-2030 moving column gantry machining center is built around a simple production reality: large plates and structural parts are easier to move the spindle over than to move the part under. The table stays fixed at 2000 x 3100 mm while the column travels 3200 mm along the bed, so a long weldment gets clamped once and machined end to end.

Note that the base is cast from HT-250 cast iron, and bi-rotary milling head options are available for jobs that need angled faces machined in one setup.

Dual-Drive X Axis

At 3200 mm of column travel, a single ball screw at one end would twist the cross member under acceleration. The ZX-2030 therefore uses a dual drive with two motors on the X axis and a 63 mm diameter ball screw, while Y and Z run 40 mm screws. The result shows in the accuracy figures: ±0.003/300 mm positioning and ±0.002/300 mm repeatability on a machine of this size is a genuinely tight spec.

Cutting Package

The BT50 spindle delivers 143 N.m of rated torque at 8000 r/min with an 18.5 kW motor, and the Φ155 mm installation diameter accepts large face mills - up to Φ200 mm when adjacent magazine pockets are empty. Fifteen T-slots at 200 mm spacing give you plenty of clamping positions for irregular weldments. The 20-tool magazine keeps roughing and finishing cutters loaded so the machine can run a multi-operation plate job unattended through the tool changes.

Rapid traverse of 15/20/15 m/min and a 15000 mm/min cutting feed keep non-cutting time down between plate features, which matters when a single part takes hours of machining.
