Standard E Series Turret Milling Machine for Toolrooms
Standard E series turret milling machine, models 3E to 5EA/5EB, with tables to 1370 x 280 mm, 16-speed head, R8/NT30 or NT40 taper plus 3-5 HP motor.
Every workshop needs one machine that simply gets on with the job: facing a fixture plate, drilling a bolt pattern, milling a keyway, squaring a block before it goes to the CNC. The VITOP Standard E series turret milling machine, four models from 3E to 5EA/5EB, is that machine. It is a straightforward turret mill for general machining and toolroom work, and this guide walks through what the specification means on the shop floor.
Table Size and Travels
Two table sizes are offered: 1270 x 254 mm with a 90 mm depth on the smaller models, and 1370 x 280 x 90 mm on the larger ones. Longitudinal travel runs from 740 mm on the base model up to 1000 mm on the biggest, with cross travel between 370 and 435 mm and knee or quill-driven vertical travel from 340 to 450 mm depending on model.
| Parameter | Series range |
|---|---|
| Worktable size | 1270 x 254 x 90 / 1370 x 280 x 90 mm |
| X travel (left/right) | 740 to 1000/900 mm |
| Y travel (front/back) | 370 to 435/400 mm |
| Z travel (up/down) | 340 to 405/450 mm |
| Spindle nose to table surface | up to 470 mm; 45-470 / 45-440 mm |
| Spindle speed | 66-4530 / 80-5440 r/min (16 steps) |
| Spindle taper | R8 (NT30) / NT40 |
| Spindle motor | 3 to 5 HP |
| Whole machine weight | 1200 to 1750 kg |
The 16-Speed Head
The head offers 16 stepped speeds, from 66 to 4530 r/min on some models and 80 to 5440 r/min on others. That spread matters more than the top number. The low end is what lets you drive a large diameter cutter or a big drill into steel without stalling; the high end suits smaller end mills in aluminium. With 16 steps you can always find a workable speed for the cutter in hand, which is the practical advantage of a stepped head on a general-purpose mill.
Spindle Taper Options
Taper choices are R8 with NT30, or NT40 on the larger models. R8 tooling is inexpensive and widely available, and it suits light milling and drilling where quick changes matter. NT40 gives you a stiffer connection with a broader tool range, and it is the sensible choice if the machine will see heavier cuts or share tooling with other NT40 equipment in the shop.
What It Is Used For
- Toolroom work: fixtures, jigs, vee blocks, one-off details
- Maintenance and repair milling in production plants
- Drilling and reaming plate work on the large table
- Training shops and schools teaching manual machining
Machine weight runs from 1200 to 1750 kg, so the machine sits on a standard workshop floor without special foundations. The spindle nose to table distance reaches 470 mm on the larger models, with a minimum clearance of 45 mm, which covers most fixture and housing work.
Where a Turret Mill Still Makes Sense
If your parts run in thousands, buy a CNC machining centre; the maths is clear. But a steady stream of short jobs, repairs and setup work never justifies a CNC cycle, and queuing those jobs behind production parts on a machining centre is expensive in a different way. A turret mill absorbs that work at low running cost. If you need higher accuracy for toolroom-grade finishing, ask about the Precision S series version, which adds hardened and ground ways to the same concept.
