GV Series CNC Engraving and Milling Machine for Graphite plus Metal

GV series high-rigidity engraving-milling machines, GV-650 plus GV-870, with up to 24000 rpm plus 20 kW for graphite electrodes and metal machining.

Built to Cut Graphite Without Giving Up Metal

Graphite is abrasive, metal is demanding, and few machines genuinely do both. The VITOP GV series CNC engraving and milling machine is a two-model range, GV-650 and GV-870, described as high-rigidity precisely because it is engineered for graphite and metal machining together. Electrode shops no longer need one light machine for graphite and one heavy one for steel details.

Envelope and Table

Sliding saddle stroke (X-axis) is 600 or 700 mm, worktable travel (Y-axis) 500 to 800 mm, and spindle box travel (Z-axis) 260 to 330 mm depending on model. Tables measure 600 x 500 mm on the GV-650 and 800 x 700 mm on the GV-870, with 300 to 500 kg load capacity.

Tooling Flexibility: ER32, BT30 or BT40

The holder options tell you what the designers intended. ER32 collet chucks grip the 1-12 mm cutters typical of engraving and electrode work. BT30 covers small milling with good rigidity at speed. BT40 brings genuine metal-cutting stiffness, matched by spindle motor options stepping up to 20 kW. With speeds reaching 24000 r/min, the same machine can profile a graphite electrode in the morning and finish a hardened steel insert in the afternoon.

Graphite Work: What Changes in Practice

Graphite dust is abrasive and conductive, so shops running it seriously pay attention to extraction and machine protection: keep way covers and seals in good order, extract at the source, and clean electrical cabinets on schedule. The upside is that graphite machines beautifully at high rpm with low cutting forces, which is exactly where a 24000 rpm spindle with a rigid frame shines. On the metal side, the available power options mean real depths of cut in pre-hardened steel, not just finishing passes.

Rigidity Is the Whole Argument

An engraving-milling machine lives or dies by its structure. The GV series uses a heavy casting, and VITOP's build process backs it up: HT300 resin-sand castings with double ageing treatment, hand-scraped and matched guideways, and laser interferometry plus ballbar verification on every machine before shipment. Ask for the test report of the actual machine when you compare offers from any supplier.

Typical Applications

  • Graphite and copper electrodes for EDM, including fine rib and detail work.
  • Hardened steel mould details, inserts and texturing.
  • Small precision components in aluminium and alloy steels.
  • Engraving and fine surface machining where finish quality matters.

Choosing Between GV-650 and GV-870

Part size decides it. If your electrodes and inserts fit within 600 x 500 mm of travel, the GV-650 keeps things compact; the GV-870 adds X and Y capacity for longer electrodes and multi-part setups. Then match spindle power and holder type to your heaviest metal-cutting job, since graphite alone never needs 20 kW. If your job mix is unusual, send VITOP a list of typical parts and ask which configuration they would recommend before you commit.
