The Entry Point of the E Series

The VMC-855E is where the VITOP E series vertical machining center line starts: an 800 x 550 x 550 mm work envelope aimed at batch machining of complex, multi-process parts. If most of your parts fit on an A3 sheet plus a bit, this is the size class to study first. Bigger machines cost more per hour to run, and the parts you make decide the machine, not the other way round.

Envelope and Table

Worktable travel is 800 mm in X, 550 mm in Y and 550 mm in Z. The table measures 550 x 1000 mm and carries up to 500 kg, with five 18 mm T-slots at 90 mm spacing. Spindle centre to column guide rail is 590 mm, and the spindle nose runs from 120 to 670 mm above the table, which leaves real room for fixtures and tall parts.

Spindle Options for Different Work

The standard BT40-Φ150 belt spindle runs 8000 or 10000 rpm with 11 kW and 52.5 N.m of rated torque, a good match for steel and cast iron production parts. If your mix includes aluminium, graphite or finishing work at higher surface speeds, the optional direct-drive spindle at 12000 or 15000 rpm is the version to quote. Belt spindles give robust torque at low cost; direct drive gives the speed. Choose by material, not by catalogue enthusiasm.

Fast Axes Without Losing Stiffness

Rapid traverse is 36 m/min on all three axes with cutting feed up to 15000 mm/min. That speed only helps if the structure can follow it, so the details matter: 4016 and 4012 class ball screws, and roller-type guide rails sized 35 on X and 45 on Y and Z. Roller guides carry more load than ball guides of the same size, which is why this machine tolerates heavy mould-style cuts despite its compact footprint.

Accuracy, Verified Per Machine

Positioning accuracy is ±0.003/300 mm with ±0.002/300 mm repeatability. VITOP backs the numbers with HT300 resin-sand castings that receive double ageing treatment, hand-scraped and matched guideways, and laser interferometry plus ballbar testing of every machine before shipment. When you compare suppliers, ask for the test report of the machine you are buying; a typical value on a brochure proves nothing.

ATC and Utilities

The 24-tool magazine changes tools in 3.5 seconds tool-to-tool, with a 15 kg maximum tool weight and 80 mm diameter at full pockets, or 125 mm when the adjacent pocket is empty. The 200 L cooling tank handles long batch cycles, and total electrical capacity of 25 KVA makes installation straightforward in most shops. Footprint is about 2600 x 2600 x 2300 mm and machine weight is 5000 kg.
