HMC-630 Horizontal Machining Center for Four-Side Machining

The HMC-630 is VITOP Machinery's entry horizontal machining center, built around an inverted T structure and a 630x630 mm pallet. With 1200 mm of X travel, a BT50 spindle and a FANUC 0i-MF control, it targets box-type parts such as pump bodies, valve blocks and small gearbox housings that currently eat up two or three vertical setups. Structure and Travels

The inverted T layout puts the saddle travel along the base, a layout that keeps the centre of gravity low and simplifies chip fall-away from the spindle. Travels are 1200 mm on X, 800 mm on Y and 1000 mm on Z, with the spindle end face reaching from 100 to 1100 mm above the table and the spindle centre from 130 to 930 mm. Rapids run 18 m/min on all three axes with 5010 ball screws; guide rails are 55-size ball on X and 45-size roller on Y and Z.

The Rotary Table Is the Point

The worktable divides at 0.001 degree minimum, with 1 and 5 degree indexing steps available, so the part rotates under NC control and four faces come to the spindle in one setup. Table load capacity is 1200 kg, enough for most housings plus a fixture. On a manifold block, the practical result is one datum, one program and no re-clamping tolerance between the port faces.

Spindle and Tooling

The BT50-Φ190 spindle runs to 6000 r/min with an 18.5 kW motor, a heavy-cutting combination for cast iron and steel housings. The 24-tool magazine accepts tools up to Φ110 mm fully loaded or Φ200 mm with adjacent pockets empty, and a 40-tool magazine is available if your parts carry more operations. Maximum tool weight is 15 kg.

Control, Footprint and Planning

Control is FANUC 0i-MF, with Mitsubishi M80VB optional. The machine weighs about 9500 kg. Plan foundation and chip handling early: horizontal machining centers move a lot of swarf, and a chip conveyor plus high-pressure coolant consideration should be part of the purchase rather than an afterthought. If your parts fit a 630 mm cube with fixture, the HMC-630 is the natural first horizontal for a shop moving up from vertical-only production.

Programming and Setup Notes

Expect a short adjustment period if your team has only run verticals. Rotating the table means every face of the part has its own coordinate system, so plan your work offsets per face and prove them with a single conservative face first. The 0.001 degree minimum division also allows contouring moves, useful for port angles and angled boss faces that would otherwise need a dedicated setup.

For a first horizontal, keep early jobs simple: two-face parts before four-face parts, rigid fixtures before exotic ones. The FANUC 0i-MF control is familiar to most setters, which shortens the learning curve, and the 24-tool magazine handles typical housing programs once you standardise on a common holder set. Request the machine's geometric test report at delivery and run a ballbar check after installation, so you start with a documented accuracy baseline for the rotary axis as well as X, Y and Z.
